William (Bill) “Ready” Cash was born on this date in
Round Oak, Georgia; 1919. Cash, a
catcher who was known for his strong throwing arm, played his entire Negro
League baseball career (1943 – 1950) with the Philadelphia Stars. He played in the 1948 and 1949 East-West All
Star Game, hitting two doubles in the latter to help the East squad to a 4 – 0
victory. He spent two seasons in the Chicago
White Sox minor league system (1952 -1953), but was past his prime (33 and 34
years old) and did not play in the Major Leagues..
